An EPIC Breakfast Experience

Thank you to everyone who came out to this mornings Parents Appreciating Parents Breakfast!  It was a smashing success.  Families joined with other families to share in a heartwarming meal in the heart of our school community.

Thank you to Eastwood for providing such a wonderful environment for our event.  The warm community atmosphere surrounding the Eagle's Nest this morning was filled with Teachers and Students starting their day in their open concept learning environments. I, for one, really felt as though I got a true experience of what life at Eastwood feels like for our children.  It's thanks to everyone there that this is so.

Thank you, of course, to our EPIC leaders for all their hard work in putting event together.  Without you, this event just would not be possible.

I encourage everyone who came out this morning to continue to come out to our community reads, our spirit assemblies, our EPIC meetings and other events.  Life at Eastwood just isn't EPIC without you :)

NEXT MEETING DATE - MARCH 5TH in the EAGLE'S NEST.

See you there!

Epic

ep•ic
Noun
A long poem, typically derived from oral tradition, narrating the deeds and adventures of heroic or legendary figures (Dictionary.com)

I think you would agree that a parent is a legendary figure.

Now, I know some of you are thinking “Ya , right. What’s legendary is the pile of dishes I have in my sink right now. “And you would probably be right if your house is anything like mine. However, that is not the stuff that legends are made of. Legends are made in the trenches, and on the front lines. Hero’s are made in struggle. You know as well as I do that a lot of days it’s a genuine struggle to face that pile of dishes in your sink, with the kids running around and the homework to do and dinner to be made And yet we do it. Day after day we drag our weary behinds to the kitchen and turn on the tap, organize the mountain and wash away the grime, ready for another day. This is the stuff legends are made of. To do it because we know tomorrow is another day and another sink full of happy meals and full bellies and the occasional skirmish over eating your vegetables. Another day to watch them grow.

It just so happens that the name of our Parent Council here at Eastwood has the privilege of sharing that name. EPIC. Now, here the word is, of course, an acronym standing for Eastwood Parent Involvement Committee. It really is just a fancy way of saying that we are a group of parents who work together with the school to provide learning and opportunities for our children. So really if you look at it that way you are all already a part of it. Many of us come and share our skills and our time with our children here at the school. Not all of us can always do that. We all have dishes in our sinks, waiting to be washed for tomorrow. Maybe though, just maybe you might feel heroic enough to come and join us at a meeting, or even come into the school to read with your child. We will see you there… we might even catch it on film  I really believe that together we can be the stuff of legends. That we could make this a truly EPIC experience.
